Learn MoreEvents
We are no longer arranging and publishing a programme of regular monthly evening events. Groups of members meet socially for coffee mornings, afternoon teas, lunches, and possibly for the occasional evening meal. These will be arranged by email or phone on an ad hoc basis. We also hope to arrange outings to local events at weekends to suit those who are working, as well as visits to events in London with a Scandinavian connection.
Learn MoreOur History
The Odense Link - St Albans has a long-standing link with Odense in Denmark. According to one story, 11th century Danish monks studying at St Albans Abbey, then a Benedictine Monastery, took the bones of St Alban with them when they returned to Odense and placed them in the crypt of their new church of Saint Alban (Sct Albani Kirke).
Learn MoreUseful Links
We have provided links to Friends of HASS and to relevant local and national services, including universities that teach Scandinavian languages, suppliers of Scandinavian goods and places to eat Scandinavian food. We hope you find this useful.

If you are new to the area and would be interested in meeting local Scandinavians or others with an interest in things Scandinavian, please contact us initially by email so that we can inform you of these events and pass on any information and/or requests for help that we receive in connection with other Scandinavia-related activities resume. We would like to arrange some way of enabling younger Scandinavians coming into the area to meet up. This has proved difficult in the past, because everyone is so busy. If you fall into this category and would like to organise and monitor, say, a Facebook group, we would love to hear from you. Contact us today

The society was originally just an Anglo-Danish society, but now welcomes members from all the Nordic countries. One of the prime movers in its foundation was the Dane, Count Ove Scheel, who spent many years in St Albans as a restaurateur after retiring from the company he had worked for in Denmark and in England.
